WHAT DOES FASHION MEANS TO YOU?
To me fashion means being comfortable in whatever you wear. Clothing is one of the basic necessities of life, so when you wear something that not only expresses you but makes you feel comfortable and confident, you are being fashionable.
WHAT CAN YOU SAY IS YOUR UNIQUE STYLE?
Simplicity. I don’t like to have too much going on, simplicity is also very much a part of my designs; I don’t like when there is too much going on.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGN?
The woman figure. The woman is a very complex and yet simple being. There are several ways to express and show the complexities of the woman nature and that is what I do with my designs. I express the woman fully, a woman is simple, strong, sexy, vibrant etc. A woman can be whatever she chooses to be and all these features can be expressed through her clothing style. So my designs aim to capture the complex and yet simple nature of a woman.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DESIGNING?
For four years now.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SO FAR WITH YOUR DESIGNS?
Showcasing them to the world; but my dream is to go beyond designing on paper, I want my designs to be worn by everyday people, I can say I want my designs “alive”.
WHY DID YOU NAME YOUR BRAND STELLASTA?
I’m not yet sure about that name (she laughs). But whatever brand name I come up with in the future would definitely be coined from my names. I’d surely let you know when I come up with something permanent.
HAVE YOU HAD ANY FORMAL TRAINING IN FASHION DESIGNING?
Not at all, it’s a talent that has evolved with practice. I’m very passionate and dedicated to it. I intend to go to a fashion school after I finish my first degree. I have lots of plans for the future.
TALKING ABOUT THE FUTURE, WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF FIVE YEARS FROM NOW?
My fashion label should be up and running; I’m hoping it would be a household name by then. I have faith in God and I’m really working hard on improving myself and meeting the right people.
WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE AS AN UPCOMING DESIGNER?
Getting the right materials can be so much hustle especially in Port Harcourt but I’m making do with the ones available.
CAN YOU MENTION SOME DESIGNERS YOU ADMIRE AND FOLLOW ACTIVELY?
House of DVF, Balmain, and other not so popular designers but I find them incredible and I really admire what they do.
I REALLY ADMIRE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE SO FAR, ESPECIALLY AS AN AMATEUR DESIGNER PUTTING YOURSELF OUT THERE, THAT’S A REALLY BOLD STEP. WERE YOU NOT SCARED AT FIRST?
Haha thanks a lot, I appreciate the compliments. I was very scared and I won’t lie I am still scared, but I have been constantly encouraged by family and friends and I have learnt to face my fears. My eyes are fixed on the goal and I’m not letting fear deprive me of success. I am a fashion mogul on the rise.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME STELLA, THIS HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL SESSION. I HAD FUN AND I HOPE YOU DID?
Please it’s nothing, I’m honoured actually that you are interested in an upcoming fashion designer like me. I feel blessed seeing as I’m the first to be interviewed for the uprising stars series. I feel like a star haha.
